Ugly Bill received his scars while manning a battering ram against a town gate. The defenders poured flaming pitch on him. He managed to stay on his feet and keep swinging the ram until the gate finally did crash open, but he doesn't remember much after that. The chirurgeons told him is wounds were mortal and he was left for dead, but somehow he survived. But he had been too wounded to partake in the sack of the town, so he had no loot to show for his pains. Penniless and disfigured, he drifted for a time.

Revision as of 10:17, 30 December 2011

William Forester is an ex-mercenary with horrible burn scars on his face, scalp, and neck. Hence he has the nickname "Ugly Bill." He is also called Bloody Bill.

Reputation

Bloodthirsty 1 (local). Ugly Bill is also known as Bloody Bill and The Butcher of Blackbury.

Personality

Ugly Bill is very pessimistic and is often vocal in expressing his sour attitude. He is also nigh unstoppable in a fight, pressing on heedless of wounds.

Brave +3, Pessimistic +3, Relentless +2

Notable Skills

In addition to his fighting skills, Ugly Bill has useful experience from his mercenary days:

  • Awareness
  • Stealth
  • Chirurgy

He could become a sought-after shield grog, if the magi can tolerate his temperament.

Background

Bloody Bill was once called "Ugly Bill" for the scars he received while manning a battering ram against a town gate.

A plum job fell into his lap through a cousin. His cousin had found steady work -- as a mercenary -- at a tower of wizards called Amici Brittanniae. It was garrison duty, with room and board, and best of all they paid wages in silver! Of course, you had to work for a bunch of wizards, the ill will engendered by the Gift means they not easy masters to accept. Ugly Bill proved up to the task, though. Really a wizard can't be much worse than your average mercenary captain.

Garvonn chose this worldly, battle-hardened warrior as a bodyguard for his filius Sandre Paen when the latter passed his Wizard's Gauntlet. Of course both magus and grog moved to Stranggore a few months later, but to Ugly Bill that's just like a transfer to another post. He didn't have any say in the matter -- but then, a lowly footsoldier never does.
