Sandre and Caballus went in search of Osric the Black, the leader of a group of bandits who terrified the countryside for over a year. Rumors said that they were aided by powerful magics which prevented Osric from getting caught. Many said he had made a pact with the devil.

Their travels took them up near Nottingham and Sheffield, where they found on of Osrics cast off men. He told them where to find Osric.

While traveling through the woods, a sudden fog overtook the two magi and their grogs. The fog was followed by a charge of horse riding bandits-Osric and his best men. The charge was foiled by spells from Sandre, twisting the saddles and then dropping the breeches of the charging bandits. Caballus and the grogs made short work of the bandits, but not before Randolph was badly injured.

Sandre suspects the fog was magically created, but has no proof.
