Casa sus Baux

“Baux” means cliffs and the name refers to the location of the manor house perched at the edge of a limestone cliff overlooking the fishing village of [Hameau de Saint-Vincent] which supports the covenant. The [Baux Family] has prospered and owns many and more impressive estates around [Marseille] where the family patriarch [Count Barral] holds court.

Time has eroded the cliff face and a few of the outbuilding have fallen into sea, and when Lord Maurice de Merlon died and left his remote estate to the ‘[Lost Children of Baux],’ no bothered to contest it. He named his nephew [Duran de Merlon] to be his heir and lord of the manor and its surrounds "a league in every direction". Of note is that the land is allodial land and the magi do not own direct allegiance to the Merlon or Baux family.

The Hall has been managed by the [Clermont Family] since it was built by Lord Hugh Baux in the 11th century. The current steward is [Pierre de Clermont] who has begrudgingly accepted his new lords and masters, and has allowed the house to be renovated to meet his new master’s strange needs.

Rumor in the village is that the eclectic scholars and misfits who live in the ‘House on the Cliff’ have been gathered in this remote place to keep them out of the way. [Martin], the reeve of the village who visits monthly, referrs to it as a ‘mad house’ which does not do much to improve its occupants reputation.
