Torkel is a failed Hermetic apprentice who served as Herald of Stranggore from 1191-1194. At the Stonehenge Tribunal of 1194 he was adopted as an apprentice by the eldest Redcap of the Tribunal.
Torkel is a former apprentice of a Flambeau maga who disastrously failed his Gauntlet. As a result of his failure, he was imprisoned by a lord of the dark faeries who gradually stole his Gift. He eventually escaped by making an enchanted cloak that lets him transform into the shape of a raven.
Torkel is still a member of the mystical society of Watchers of Brân, who guard England against supernatural threats. He reports to Cedric but will also answer to Argus.

Little is left of Torkel's Gift. He can at will transform into a Raven when he wears his cloak. He also was give a set of magical clothes which protect and transform with him. He also knows enough magic to serve as a lab assistant.
