Simon's pater is a refugee from the sacking of Constantinople and has lived as a transient eremite until he settled in Verona.

Prior to Verona he lived in Montpellier for five or six years where he took Simon as his apprentice.

He has since left Verona to return to Constantinople to re-establish his former covenant.
