His mother, now dead, was the nursemaid to the Lord of Bristol and he was raised in and among the court always second in importance to his mother's noble charges.

He does not know his father and jokes that his mother gave him two first names after his father, either William or Robert.

A talented minstrel who is welcome in court for he brings interesting rumors, stories, and song.

He lives day to day, always moving on before his welcome ends. He pretends to be more blind than he really is.
