When the time came for Sandre's gauntlet, he traveled with his mentor Garvonn to the Tremere home covenant in Transylvania. They traveled on foot with several grogs. One, named Ugly Bill, was asigned the duty of protecting Sandre due to Sandre's inability to handle even the simplest weapons safely. Along the route Sandre visited many Tremere covenants, and met many members of his house for the first time.

The Tremere gauntlet is a certamen duel. Sandre dueled Garvonn in Certamen before many of his house, including the head of the house, ___. The duel was Muto Animal; it took the form of battling animal, which changed shape to destroy each other. Sandre did well in the first two rounds, winning small victories against his mentor. However, he became overconfident, and tried to perform too complicated of a maneuver. He attempted to work his shade into a Honey Badger, an animal much more fearsom than its name. However, Sandre had only heard of such things, never seen them, and ended up making a baby bear, most ineffective. Sandre quickly was overrun by his mentors skills. However, the early successes allowed Sandre to last 4 rounds, one more than needed to pass the gauntlet.

After his gauntlet, Sandre was told by Garvonn that Amici Britanniae did not have room for more MAgi, and that Sandre would have to find his own covenant. Garvonn suggested Sandre accept an invitation to Stranggore, a covenant with a rough relationship with Amici Britanniae. Sandre agreed that this seemed like a place with much potential, and took Ugly Bill with him to spend a season there.
