A Hero at Last

James and George face off against a superior foe and George pays with his life.

Season: Spring 1207

James and George the Bastard traveled to the New Forest to follow up a cryptic note in the journal of Jonas of Wells regarding the Six Hallows. There they met a young and attractive folk witch, Gwendolyn, and her elderly mentor, Winnifrid. They learned these two witches belonged to the covenant of Elder Grove.

The magical center of the New Forest was plagued by wolves and unseasonable mists. James and George tried to drive the wolves away. They found and entered the wolves' cave, where they also met the monstrous and magically powerful Troll of the New Forest. The troll commanded the wolves to attack.

James was badly wounded. George managed to blow the Horn of Distant Sounding before he was overwhelmed and slain by the wolves. James was captured by the troll and held prisoner, but help from Stranggore arrived: Merewen came by magic and rescued him by stealth.

George was buried with hero's honors at the parish cemetery in Shepton Mallet.
